Greetings
I am a UK based potter - living, working and creating from my studio in beautiful Somerset. I studied art at Dartington Hall in Devon.
I have created through out my life. I began my artistic journey with oil paints then moved to hand made earth paint and I am now exploring the medium of earth through clay.
Horses are my main creative inspiration.
They have always appeared in my painting, drawing and ceramics.
I’ve followed the thread of horses all my life
The power of the horse as an icon echoes in our shared ancient past, still present in our culture today. The Animal Icons which inspire my work – horses, deer, foxes, ravens - are woven into our folklore, and our collective unconscious.
My potters mark, which appears on all my ceramics represents this: the shared energy spiraling through the horse icon, to me and finally, into my work.
I work with very simple images from a tribal past,
when rock art was all we had between us
and the wolf.
In 2005 I gave up dental practice to focus on creating art
Working in ceramics I found interesting parallels between the technical challenges of glazing and firing and my early training in material sciences.
I embrace the challenges of exploring and pushing the discipline of clay, heat and glazes to embody my creativity.
